fourth wall permissions post
Travis is a fourth wall breaker and a nerd; he both knows that he is fictional and may or may not know your character! Please let me know if you'd like to opt out or avoid anything in our threads.
He will primarily know animanga and video games (including indie games), but he is also pop culture aware enough that he'll recognize other well known franchises, i.e. Star Wars or a major comic book character. Things he especially loves that get direct references in canon include American and Japanese pro-wrestling and lucha libre, Gundam, Takashi Miike's films, and Kamen Rider. As Travis Strikes Again was released in 2019, he will have no knowledge of any canons from 2020 onward.
If you are not opting out entirely, Travis can know either the actual canon or a fake version--i.e. Wendy the Werewolf Stalker as opposed to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. If you have any other special requests for this, I'm happy to work with you. Of course, even if he can fourth wall your characters, he's not going to give out plot details or spoilersunless you want him to and I'll absolutely never info-mod in my tags.
If I ever go too far with breaking the fourth wall in tags, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll happily correct my mistake. Thanks!

Can Travis fourth wall your characters?: For Toph, sure. She'd find the whole metaverse thing a little confusing but not care that much. I mean, she's awesome, of course there's stories written about her? For Harold, no thanks because it will give him a full-on crisis and his live action TV show is out of Travis's wheelhouse anyway, it sounds like.
What can he know and what should he avoid?: Anything is game for Toph and nothing at all for Harold please <3

ATLA actually might be a little out of his wheelhouse too (he was busy watching magical girl anime and becoming an assassin when it first aired......) so he probably wouldn't even register her as "oh yeah the little girl from the Nickelodeon anime" until she came to kick his ass LOL. Ty Liv!!

What can he know and what should he avoid?: I'd like to stick to the Superman stuff for the time being - so nothing re: his secret identity, growing up on a Kansas farm etc but leaning into Superman the superhero stalwart of pop culture is fine. (His relationship with Lois is fine too, I lol'd madly at her being pissed she was known for dating him. Clark would be baffled that that's the main thing she's known for c'mon.)

Characters: Sciel from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (2025)
Can Travis fourth wall your characters?: COE33 and its development are in your boy’s future, which is tragic because I’m sure if he DID know, he would have SUCH funny opinions about an AA game made by former Ubisoft devs getting nominated for the big awards as an “indie” game. :(
What can he know and what should he avoid?: While he won’t know COE33 itself, he may note:
- Sciel (and her canonmates) canonically have inventory hammerspace, wow, video games continue to be real! \o/
- If they ever had cause to fight/spar… I’m sorry that the way she fights is like, stupid JRPG mechanics that are practically impossible to translate into anything normal but would probably activate Travis’s goopy goblin gamer brain. For Travis and only Travis, I will ham it up.
- Also, from her experiences in Etraya, Sciel suspects she’s from a future/destroyed/AU version of real-world France, so if Travis is ever in the position to do any sort of blahblahblahing about that, that’s fine if it veers meta/media-talky as well! She won’t recognize it as such.

What can he know and what should he avoid?: I would say to avoid Vergil getting defensive and feral, it's best not to fourth wall Vergil himself to his face. Like, no letting on any knowledge of his life history or anything like that that he hasn't shared. But it's totally fine to make comparisons to character action games and dumb anime bullshit. He just won't get what Travis is rambling about, and look at him like he's stupid. ...Which probably won't be all that different from how he generally looks at him.

What can he know and what should he avoid?: It would actually be pretty funny if Travis could not tell the difference between Nero and Dante and kept mistaking him for Dante. It would also be funny if he was familiar with the DmC: DMC edgelord reboot nobody likes and that only.
I'm really here for the bit either way, Nero will just mostly be irritated and not understand anything along these lines said to him.
