H'oh.

[A wry smile.]

Wasn't I? Ahaha.

I took good care of you.

[A beat. He knows how this works, it's easy:]

You've always wanted to be a hero, haven't you?

They falsified our backstories, correct.

[He's good at the emotional things, so here he goes. It's all sincere, at least, but he has his motives.]

As a merchant, it is my duty to do all I can for the greater good, and as a captain, I'd give my life to save anyone who works under me. All of those things, the way I treated you back then...

That's how I really feel about you, ya know.

Don't you want to help me? Do something for the greater good, I mean. For all of the people here.

We've made so many friends! It's important that we protect them.

I'm looking for a product, something we can trade for. Food's already been capitalized- Ah, the most essential of needs! The basics of basics! But, but, but!

There's a problem with philanthropy, you know. There's not enough incentive. Sure, kind-hearted people, people who care about other people, like you and I... Surely, we'd pitch in! But not everybody's like that. People aren't motivated by kindness alone.

I have another idea.
